Christmas music

Now, I'm all for Christmas music. Like, sure, whatever...

But I can honestly say I wasn't looking forward to Christmas at Tehillah.

Why?

Because it would take away from the worship aspect.

Because, I know Christmas songs have all the right words... But it seems like Christmas music, no matter how 'Christian' it is... is all secular. I mean, I don't think you have to have grown up in church to know all the words to 'Joy to the World', am I right?

So I wasn't looking forward to Christmas at Tehillah. Cause I thought it would become secular... Less worshipful.

FYI - it didn't...

The words to simple, popular Christmas songs totally hit me... You hear them so often, you've stopped paying attention to what the lyrics really are/mean.

"Joy to the World , the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room"

Let every heart prepare Him room.

Maybe that's the problem...

Christmas seems secular, because we're not focusing on preparing our hearts... Or making room... We're focusing on the "Christmas spirit". Presents, Santa, cookies... What if we all spent a little more time preparing room in our hearts?

"Joy, unspeakable joy
an overflowing well, no tongue can tell
Joy, unspeakable joy
rises in my soul, never lets me go"

  1. I'm with you 100%. Christmas music is my favourite music to sing in church actually, or anywhere. It's easy to forget how much truth there really is in the lyrics!
